Our purpose

A word you saw in the news, a “why?” from everyday life. Plenty of things feel familiar, yet are hard to explain when you try. Marusuke's Naruhodo Lab turns them, one at a time, into a quick “naruhodo!” (Japanese for “Oh, I get it!”).

Why we make this

Something you didn’t get suddenly clicks. That “naruhodo!” moment is a small joy. When we have one, we want to share it with others in a way that’s easy to follow. That’s why we make this site and our videos.

Scientific knowledge was built by many people who looked into things, checked them, and added to them. We take it in, untangle it, turn it into pictures and videos, and hand it to you.

Our yardstick

Not how many people saw a page, but whether you finished it thinking “naruhodo!”

Four promises to our readers

  1. We start with a question

We don’t open with the answer. We ask one question, think through the answer that probably comes to mind first, and then answer it. A “naruhodo!” comes when your own guess gets turned around.

  2. We answer briefly, with pictures

The answer is short, shown with pictures and a video. The details are folded away, so read only as far as you want.

  3. We check the original sources before we publish

Our scripts stay within facts we first write down from papers and official sources. Numbers and firm claims are checked not just against announcements or news, but against the text of the original papers and documents. The checking is done by a different AI from the one that wrote the script, and by a person. Each page’s “How we checked” section lists its sources and the date it was checked. Where opinions differ, we don’t present one side as the only right answer.

  4. No ads, and we don’t track you

We don’t use ads or cookies. We count how many times each page is read with a tool that doesn’t identify individuals (Cloudflare Web Analytics). Videos load from YouTube only when you press play (see our Privacy Policy).
